Bulgaria is fast becoming a popular destination for international tourists because it is relatively cheap, very easily accessible and has a wonderfully long summer holiday season that runs right from the beginning of May to the very end of October. Bulgaria’s beautiful Black Sea coastline is at it’s best in the summertime and contains everything from private islets and ancient port towns to breathtaking cliff-top views. Here’s what to see: • Cathedral St. Alexander Nevski - one of the most significant monuments in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria with its traditional architecture and just beyond the city is the Boyana church which contains remarkable examples of Bulgarian medieval painting • Sozopol is reputed to be one the most ancient towns in Bulgaria with evidence of a settlement on the spot dating as far back as the Bronze Age. It’s also a seaside resort with sandy beaches backed by bars, restaurants, shops and plenty of exciting things to do.
