Hurricane HQ for cruise line revealed

Carnival's command centre is deep in a hurricane resistant area of the Carnival Cruise – a vital consideration because hurricanes could actually land on the South Florida area where Carnival is based. The building has generators to ensure a continuous power supply for the multiple large-screen televisions that show information from the National Hurricane Centre, NOAA, satellite weather information, and the locations of ships.

The command centre can speak directly to any ship’s captain and meetings between various departments are held at least three times a day. The centre liaises with Carnival’s port operations group to coordinate changes. These include the air/sea department who may have to change flights or ground transportation for affected customers and public relations who communicate with the media, post information on the company’s Web site, and work with affected ships in communicating port changes to the guests.
