Fred Olsen’s Balmoral was build by Harland and Wolff which is the same company that built Titanic, and it will be the cruise liner that will undertake a historic voyage in 2012.
The ship will take 1309 passengers to the exact point where the Titanic sank. 1309 is the same number that sailed on the Titanic and because Balmoral actually can’t sail as fast as her tragic predecessor, she will have to leave Southampton earlier in April than the Titanic did. She aims to be at the same oceanic location on 14th April as Titanic was she went down, to take part in a special memorial ceremony that will run from 23:40 and 02:20 which is the time it took from hitting the iceberg to sinking.
The Balmoral will then continue to Halifax, Nova Scotia, including a planned visit to the cemetery where 121 Titanic victims were laid to rest, before arriving in New York for a flight home.
