New fess from major cruise lines

Some of the major cruise lines have recently imposed new fees. It is being seen as an effort to raise the onboard revenues.

One of the most aggressive luxury as well as family cruises, which have taken this approach, is Royal Caribbean. The company has recently announced an addition of $14.95 surcharge, on the passenger’s fees. The additional charge covers the cost of its main dining room and a “late night service charge” of $3.95. This service charge is meant for the onboard room service orders, which are placed at anytime between midnight and 5 a.m.

The Carnival cruise line is also charging a $30 fee. It covers the charges for the specialty restaurants. The company representatives also state that the options provided against these fees have been highly appreciated by the guests.

Royal Caribbean says, that they are charging the fees in exchange of an exclusive convenience. According to them, the passengers can order whatever they want to at the time and place of their choice. The room service fee on the other, according to the company’s spokeswoman is a way to encourage a responsible food ordering habit among people traveling on their cruises.
