Carnival cruises on a roll, despite recession

Carnival Corp, the world’s largest family and luxury cruise-line has earned high first-quarter profits, even after it has cut its costs and offered some really heavy discounts.

According to the company’ sources from its Miami-based office, the company’s net income rose from 236 million dollars in the last financial year to 260 million dollars this year. This is in spite of the fact that the sales have dropped by a 9.1 per cent that amounts to a huge fall of 2.86 billion dollars at the end of the month of February.

Micky Arison, the Carnival CEO issued a statement, that despite the not so favorable economic climate, the achievement of a higher quarterly net income is a remarkable thing,

On the other hand the company’s representatives also said that they have reduced their forecast for the rest of the year. The reason according to them is that they are able to fill their ships only because they are offering much lower prices. This is being seen by the company as an effort to bring those people on their cruises, who otherwise would have never considered a cruise vacation.

The Carnival cruise line is also adding 16 new vessels that are to be delivered between the period of April 2009 and June 2012.
