Costa Ryanair checked bags confusion

When Costa Cruises paired up with Ryanair to advertise cruises and sell them through the Ryanair website, it seemed like a dream deal. However, in a recent statement, the Ryanair boss said that checking bags was to be ‘abolished’ and that would have meant that passengers flying out to join their cruise would have to either cope for a week (or two week!) cruise with only handluggage, or pay extra to have hold baggage checked in.

Apparently not. First, the new system won’t begin until late 2010. Second, it’s not that you can’t have hold baggage – it’s more a case that anything over the 10 hand luggage will be carried to the gate by the passenger, then loaded by baggage handlers into the aircraft. So all it means is that if you fly with Ryanair, which isn’t obligatory, you have to carry your own bags right to the plane …
