British woman dies of cruise virus

Mary and Tony Smith of Malvern, were on P&O’s Oriana, cruising around the Baltic when she became very ill. 67 year-old Mary was diagnosed by the onboard doctor who said she had norovirus and, as is standard procedure for this highly contagious condition, was confined to her cabin. The couple had already completed the first week of their cruise when she became ill and by the time their holiday ended on August 7th, Mrs Smith was apparently recovered enough to travel home by taxi. However her health suddenly went downhill and she was admitted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital where she died on 10th August.

Worcestershire Coroner’s Court opened and adjourned an inquest into Mrs Smith’s death on 14th August as the precise cause of her death has yet to be determined.
