Fly-cruise strike threat

Earlier in August a proposed ‘border strike’ was called off. But now, Unite, the union that represents baggage-handlers, says that their members at Stansted, Manchester and Gatwick airports have all voted to strike. The problem is a pay dispute with the company that employs them and provides services for many airlines such Virgin Atlantic and Emirates Airlines.

And the date for the strike? This weekend – including the bank holiday, which is the one of the three busiest travel weekends at the airports. Talks are continuing, but at the moment it looks as if travellers heading for their cruise from these three airports should plan for long delays.
