The German cruise operator Transocean which is currently chartering the venerable cruise ship Marco Polo, has filed for bankruptcy.
The company says that cruises on its two charters, Marco Polo and Astor will run as planned for the rest of this year. This may affect UK based passengers booked on the next Marco Polo cruise which departs on 6th October for a West Indies 32 day cruise, but there is no statement in the UK press about the planned cruise yet.
Cruise & Maritime Services International will be taking over Marco Polo from 2010 and sailing her with another ship, Ocean Countess, running cruises to the Amazon, Orinoco and West Indies in winter and northern Europe and the Mediterranean in summer. Marco Polo’s Cruise & Maritime Services based cruises start at £199 per person for a mini-cruise to Amsterdam and Antwerp.
