How green is your cruise?

Earlier this year environmental campaigners claimed that flying is three times greener than cruising, and the cruise industry has been quick to counteract this idea.

The head of the Passenger Service Association said that the PSA was conducting a study into CO2 emissions from ships, which will be published later this year. He said that cruise lines are doing a lot to limit emissions and the newer ships are very efficient, but the industry had to make people aware of its efforts.

One way cruises might become greener is mega-ships that ‘host’ smaller ones visiting ports Fredrik Johansson, senior designer at Tillberg Design, the creators of ‘Independence of the Seas’, said 5,000-passenger vessels which also carry smaller ships could be the norm within a few years.
