A cruise ship said to have been struck by the ‘Curse of Camilla’ has returned to the UK with its curse very much still in operation.
Many travellers spent thousands of pounds for their trip on the Queen Victoria but 170 of them were confined to their cabins after contracting norovirus. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, failed to smash the bottle of champagne against the side of Queen Victoria at her launch which is considered a bad luck by the superstitious. Sure enough, after the vessel sailed out of Southampton for a sixteen night cruise around the Canary Islands, a substantial percentage of the 3,000 passengers and crew on board began to succumb to the highly contagious vomiting bug.
The virus is easy to catch but doesn’t usually have long term health effects except for the very young or very old. A spokesman for Cunard said ‘Only 2.19% of total guests and 0.3% of total crew are experiencing these symptoms.’ The virus is spread by food handlers, by contact with those who have the virus and by contaminated drinking water, it’s very common and cruise ships are a likely location for it to flourish because passengers live and socialise in close quarters.
