Welsh cruise port?

Yesterday hundreds of cruise passenger from Britain and the USA stepped onto Welsh soil – the small step was the first part of the trial of an industrial jetty which could open the door to millions of pounds of tourist cash.

When Saga Rose pulled into Holyhead harbour at around 7am yesterday she disembarked 600 passengers on to the Anglesey Aluminium jetty which is generally only used for transporting metal. The cruise passengers boarded buses to be taken on day trips to Beaumaris, Caernarfon and Bodnant Gardens. Local MP, Albert Owen, said, ‘It was a big success and I was very pleased with how it went and the feedback I had from the passengers I spoke to.' The test disembarkation was a staged plan which could lead to the creation of a permanent cruise ship terminal at the port.
