If you want to feel the real Chinese New Year, the only place to experience the festivities is in China! From 7th February, the Chinese New Year will be celebrated with 15 days of fantasy, food, entertainment and fireworks.
But while China is opening up rapidly to tourists, it’s still not the place for do-it-yourself travel arrangements so talk to a travel agent or contact a reputable tour operator with experience in this area. Yangtze cruises are popular and fun, although you do need to be sure what you’re going to get to eat if you’re at all picky – last time I was there, mooncakes (sweet rice cakes) were one part of the New Year celebrations, but so were deep fried pigs’ ears and duck feet served in a polystyrene cup! There are a wide range of options, including staying in Beijing or even Hong Kong as part of your itinerary
