Royal Caribbean International seeks a British godmother

As part of the planned launched of their new superliner Independence of the Seas in April, RCI is on the hunt for a new British godmother to perform the ceremonial duties of launching the ship.

Who’s in the running? Well, it could be you, or someone you know, because the cruise line is looking for ‘an ordinary British woman who has done extraordinary things to become Godmother to the new Independence of the Seas this April. This special Godmother will demonstrate how she has gone above and beyond the call of duty and dedicated incredible time and effort to improve the well-being and future of young people under 18 years old in her community.’ RCI has invited Sir Steve Redgrave, five-time Olympic gold medallist and figurehead of the Steve Redgrave Fund, to front the search.

If you’d like to nominate someone, you must go to www.searchforagodmother.co.uk and explain in 250 words or less why your nominee would be the ideal Godmother for Independence of the Seas. The winner will be expected to help launch the ship via a ribbon cutting and champagne smash, will have her own portrait on board the liner and – above all - will enjoy a decade of complimentary cruises (one per year) for two people, on Royal Caribbean ships.
