If you are feeling the credit crunch, it’s a good idea to consider your long term holiday plants. Many cruise lines offer rewards for regular cruisers which increase depending on the number of cruise holidays taken with the line. These may include discounts bookings, reduced charges on purchases made on board, priority embarkation and special events on board. The more time spent cruising, the better the rewards.

• P&O Cruises has Portunus Club a rewards scheme with three levels of membership based points earned. On board discounts range from between five and ten per cent and there is a member’s magazine and dedicated cruises for members.

• Fred Olsen’s Oceans scheme also has three levels of membership - depending on how many points you have. Benefits include discounts on future cruises, priority embarkation and exclusive parties and events on board.
