Beatrice Muller is eighty-nine, and she’s been living on the QE2 for nine years! Now the ship, which is less than half her age at forty-one, is retiring, and Beatrice has to look for a new home.
She refuses to think about returning to land. ‘What would I want to do that for?’ she asked, ‘I want to travel.’ She started her permanent life on the cruise liner after her husband actually died on board.
Her cabin costs her around £3,500 a month, which she considers to be reasonable when compared to the cost of a retirement home in Florida but she finds the ship more congenial as she doesn’t feel she's being ‘organised’ as she would if she were the resident of a senior citizens home.
