More than 1,700 nominations were received by RCI following their national campaign to locate a Godmother for Independence of the Seas. Of these, a shortlist of 88 was selected, which is now reduced to four finalists whose names will be revealed this weekend, in advance of them flying out to Turku to meet Royal Caribbean Cruise Line chairman, Richard Fain, and being given a tour of the new ship.
Then they will return to the UK for interviews with the judging panel which includes Richard Fain, Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave, and Royal Caribbean Cruises senior vice-president and managing director Europe, Middle East and Africa Susan Hooper. The overall winner was announced on April 18.
