The Queen is set to make a farewell visit to the Queen Elizabeth 2. The ship, which has been the flagship of the Cunard fleet for 35 years was launched by Her Majesty in 1967 but will leave Cunard’s ownership in November to become a luxury floating hotel in Dubai.
The Queen will travel down to Southampton on June 2 to bid farewell to the QE2, a ship which as become the best known cruise liner in the world as well as being the most travelled, having covered more than 5.6 million nautical miles. It has carried 2.5 million guests, completed 25 world cruises and crossed the Atlantic 802 times. The Queen’s visit will be a gala occasion for the port of Southampton which has frequently hosted the QE2 during her forty year history.
