cruise insurance - don't forget it

Recent press reports in the travel industry have focused on an American man who was put ashore in the middle of a Caribbean cruise after the ship’s onboard doctor decided that the man had internal bleeding and needed more intensive medical attention than the ship could offer.

The passenger in question had no travel insurance, and was effectively left to fend for himself on the shores of Honduras – he decided that he did not want to undergo treatment in that country and had to pay for his own repatriation, which, he told a Florida newspaper, took two days, three flights and thousands and thousands of dollars - had he taken out travel insurance at £80, it would have covered most or all of the £10,000 cost of being taken home by an air ambulance when his problems began.
