Let’s start with the good news, many cruise lines are just naturally gay and lesbian friendly – Norwegian Cruise Lines has a lovely flexible dining approach which means you don’t feel unusual sat together and you don’t get people at another table looking for their distance glasses to see if you really are two gals or guys with one of you in the ‘wrong’ seat, as happens on some of the staider lines with formal dining procedures. Carnival and Royal Caribbean International can be great too – although if you are a childfree couple, you might find RCI’s child focus a bit much. Then there are gay-themed cruises, offered by companies like Atlantis and PlanItGay, or charter opportunities through online communities like cruisefreek which has a special section where LGBT travellers can sign up for a cruise ship chartered specifically or primarily for the gay community.
