Bermuda battered by hurricanes as cruise ships rerouted

Bermuda's ports were closed yesterday and today, on Monday to allow Hurricane Igor to have his way with the small island nation and today for clear-up Igor, which has weakened in the past 24 hours, still has windspeeds of around 90 mph, plenty strong enough to do damage to shipping. Overnight on Monday, Bermuda endured hours of waves and rain, with winds causing uprooted trees and some flooding as well as scattered power failures and many small boats being torn from their moorings.

Several cruise lines were forced to alter their planned itineraries. Enchantment of the Seas sailed to Nassau instead of Bermuda – Royal Caribbean is offering passengers an onboard credit to compensate for the change, or the chance to cancel this cruise and take a credit against a future sailing on the same ship. MSC Poesia was supposed to be weekending in the port of Hamilton, Bermuda, but instead sailed on to Boston. Norwegian Spirit was another ship that planned to spend the weekend in Bermuda but is instead reversing its route to spend two sea days at the beginning of its schedule before calling at Orlando and Nassau.
