Gay cruise holidays cruise lines to try
Posted on 19 Jun 2008
Some lines are considered more ‘gay friendly’ than others. This is partly a measure of the way the line operates and partly a measure of the extent to which some lines have embraced the idea of same sex couples holidaying together. If you’re at all nervous, shy or in the closet, aim for the lines that actively welcome gay cruisers, but if you’re out and proud, experiment with the lines that just ‘accidentally’ operate in such a way that their systems work for gay couples. • Regent Seven Seas – these cruises aren’t cheap and for that reason you’ll find a reasonable proportion of your fellow travellers are older, retired, professional people – which is an accidental outcome that means they are a more liberal bunch than say, middle income families with a few kids in two. Other accidental features are the lines ‘open seating’ system that allow you to choose your dining companions and sit together, and you can ask for a double bed instead of singles for two men sharing. Sailings on Paul Gauguin, to highly liberal and gay friendly Polynesia are a natural place to find kindred spirits. • Crystal Cruises – a top line for same-sex couple holidays from the ‘gay’ films in the ship’s library through to the superb customer service which is clearly designed to make all guests feel at home. Nothing very overt here, but gay couples find themselves being fitted into wider social events with impeccable tact and style. • Princess – offers more of that flexibility in Personal Choice dining and it’s quite common to find gay honeymooner on Tahitian Princess, which cruises in the relaxed and gay friendly French Polynesian region.
