Alaska is part of North America and choosing a cruise to this region means the best of both worlds – wildlife and scenery from the far North alongside the luxurious amenities that we’ve all come to expect from a cruise holiday.
Alaska is known to many as the Last Frontier because of its rugged climate and appearance, but the capital of Alaska, the city of Juneau, is hardly frontier territory – despite the backdrop of the magnificent Mount Juneau, the city offers some lovely dining and tourist opportunities and even your sight-seeing can be relaxed if you take Mount Roberts Tramway for a glacier spotting trip.
Ketchikan is notable for the Misty Fjords National Monument – an astonishing landscape composed of stunning fjords, high jagged cliffs against bright blue skies and lakes, and massive waterfalls that create the mist that gives the area its name. All cruises call into Glacier Bay, not just to look at the glaciers that give the bay its name, but because the bay, at the heart of the Alaskan national park, is a superb chance to see aquatic wildlife.
At the shoreline you can expect to see porpoises and sea lions while as your cruise ship enters and leaves the bay you have the chance to look out humpback whales and it’s common to see minke and killer whales using the bay as a hunting location.
