Celebrity Speakers on Cruise Ships

Everybody knows that cruise ships offer a great range of entertainment – and one of the key attractions on the cruises put together by the upscale cruise lines is the speaker programme.

Some cruise lines focus on delivering a deep insight into specialist subjects, like Cunard’s relationship with the film industry which brings producers and directors on board to talk about the creation of their films. Other lines are keener to get a key speaker who is a household name. Silversea had a coup when they managed to book John Cleese as a speaker for their Silver Spirit cruise from Buenos Aires to Santiago on February 20th 2010, while P&O have recently featured , went on sale in January this year but it was announced only in June that John Cleese would be aboard. While P&O have recently featured Bob Champion and Sir Henry Cooper while on board Artemis this winter, cruise passengers can expect to be charmed by Sir Donald Sinden and educated by wine buff Jilly Goolden and Antiques Road Show expert Henry Sandon. Some speakers may not be household names but offer a profound insight into their subject such as the astronomers who give stargazing talks on Cunard ships, while other cruise lines use celebrities who are already involved in the cruise business, such as Marco Pierre White whose P&O restaurant gives P&O access to his skills as a speaker.
