Book all in one – a package trip will usually work out much cheaper than organising accommodation and travel at either end of the trip yourself. And if your pre and post cruise travel is part of the package, as is offered by many cruise lines these days, you’ll be covered by the ATOL scheme so that if something goes wrong, you’ll be refunded and if you happened to be overseas, you’d be instantly repatriated.
Wait until the last minute – if you can hold your nerve, there is often massive discounting by cruise lines in the sixty days before sailing. So if you’re not fussed about where you go, this can be an amazing way to get a bargain.
Avoid the holiday season – if you can manage to book outside the school holidays, or if you’re child free, you’ll find you can get a much better price for a holiday. Similarly, weekend flights to meet your cruise ship can cost up to four times more than mid-week ones, so it might be better to travel a couple of days earlier and stay in a hotel, more holiday for the same money!
