Oasis of the Seas goes green

Everybody is counting the days to 5th December, when Oasis of the Seas embarks on her maiden voyage.

Now that her ‘Central Park’ has been planted out, the first guests can expect to saunter through a football pitch sized area containing groves of trees, bamboo, vines and stroll across parkland to find kiosks offering soft drinks and entertainers performing magic tricks. 254 rooms with balconies overlook the park area.

It’s not going to be quite as pricy as we once though either. The fare for a nine night eastern Caribbean fly-cruise begins at £1,786 and passengers obviously have to fly out to Florida to meet the mega-mega ship. Until this week, the interior of the 1,187ft ship had been a closely guarded secret although celebrity singer Rihanna has already performed a concert on board. Such a big ship needs more than one godmother and already lined up for the job are two - British actress Jane Seymour and pop star Gloria Estefan. And given the size of the ship, which is the most talked about aspect of her creation, the designers have worked hare to make sure passengers cannot get lost. There is a computerised room finder installed on every deck, near the lifts, to ensure that cruise passengers can find their way back to the cabins, wherever they are in Oasis of the Seas’ seven neighbourhoods.
