A recent survey reveals a marked increase in interest in winter holiday destinations over the past few months. It seems that lots of UK holidaymakers want to escape the doom and gloom of our current dark mornings and chilly winter evenings in favour of a trip to somewhere that the weather is hot and the mornings sunny. It seems that we British like to go away for the whole of festive season or soon afterwards, unlike the Scandinavians who tend to take a December break just before Christmas and most of the destinations we choose for winter holidaymakers tend to be exotic locations, which offer guaranteed sunshine as well as some exciting places to visit.
In 2009, the most popular winter sun destinations for UK travellers turned out to be:
The Canaries
Egypt
The Caribbean
Goa
And Dubai, although middle east trips, especially cruises have had a sudden drop in popularity, especially Dubai, after it’s recent loan defaulting crisis.
People choose a cruise for winter sun because it’s one of the easiest ways to escape a cold winters, and it’s a particularly popular time to visit the Caribbean as it’s outside the hurricane season. Cruise holidays are also popular because they offer the chance to visit several countries or resorts in one holiday.
