Cunard and Juilliard

Cunard Line has joined forces with The Juilliard School to offer jazz performances on select 2010 eastbound transatlantic crossings on Queen Mary 2.

Both students and teachers from Juilliard, which is the most prestigious performing arts school in the USA, will perform in Queen Mary 2’s Royal Court Theatre, offering both classic and contemporary jazz. The Juilliard School was established in 1905 with a focus on classical music, but by 1951 it had added a dance division, and now also offers a drama programme to students. Since 2001 Juilliard has added a jazz programme to its teaching roster.

Classic jazz fits well with Queen Mary 2’s style. She’s been cleverly designed to closely resemble the older and smaller Queen Elizabeth 2 but she has a range of modern features that surprise and delight. Alongside her classic Cunard features: vast staircases, soaring public rooms, and a 360-degree promenade deck, there is also the hyper-modern Canyon Ranch Spa and the full-size planetarium.
