Hot Cruise ports for 2010

Seasoned cruisers want to travel to the most exciting new destinations being offered by cruise lines – so what are the top ‘hotspots’ that cruise passengers can look forward to in the year ahead?

European ports of call to look out for:

Skagen, Denmark is a gorgeous little resort that was popular in the 19th century with travellers and artists – it’s fantastic rocky scenery is a photographers dream.

Gozo in Malta dips in an out of fashion, sometimes it’s hot, sometimes it’s not! But the Maltese islands are fantastically well located between Sicily and Africa, offering a hot climate and Gozo is picturesque squared: from the architecture to the British red post-boxes, it’s a little gem that deserves ore attention. Rovinj in Croatia is little known but well worth visiting, it’s Italianate architecture comes from having been a Venetian province for centuries, and the cost of living here, compared to other European ports, is remarkably low, so your tourist spend goes a very long way.

North American destinations of note:

L’Anse-aux-Meadows National Historic Site in Newfoundland is a bit of a mouthful, but it’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site – packed with archaeological information about the people who lived there who are the earliest known inhabitants of the Americas, it also has a strong Viking history.

Rockland, Maine is famous for one thing – lobsters! But it’s also a pretty port with rocky scenery and a lovely harbour that often contains tall ships.

Victoria, British Columbia is known for its gardens with thrive on the mild climate offered by Vancouver island and the harbour has many whale watching boats that take cruise passengers out to have close sight of the behemoths of the sea.
