Norwegian Sky to North America

A big ship brimming with good things to do on a short cruise, the 78,000 ton, 2,000 passenger Norwegian Sky features no less than seven different dining venues, a beautiful, multi storey atrium, and a vast range of cabins, from comfortable insides to large, expansive suites complete with hot tubs on their balconies. She is an all singing, all dancing party boat, the ideal vessel for a quick jaunt to the Bahamas.

That is not to say that she lacks high quality. Le Bistro is an extra charge restaurant that offers fabulous, French styled cuisine in a very exclusive setting. The two main dining rooms are ready when you are; indeed, Norwegian's signature 'Freestyle Dining' set up has now been widely copied right across the entire cruise industry.

On deck, there is a pair of large pools, complete with four hot tubs, as well as a couple of bars and a buffet restaurant. Parties are held up on this deck on some nights in good weather.

Inside, the Norwegian Sky features a décor that some find appealing, while just as many find it garish-a  kind of Hawaiian/Polynesian mish mash, a hangover from her old days spent cruising to Hawaii. One thing for sure; it forms an instant talking point for strangers to raise a glass or two over.

Norwegian Sky cruises call at Nassau, which can best be described politely as possessing a kind of brittle glamour. Personally, I prefer to stay on the ship. However, the other usual port-Norwegian's own 'private island' of Great Stirrup Cay- is a must do.

Now offering all inclusive drink fares on board (and that also includes any drinks you have on Great Stirrup Cay), Norwegian Sky is ideal for people who have never taken a cruise before, and are looking at an inexpensive first 'sampler' trip. Likewise, for those looking for a quick 'top up' or, indeed, as part of an extension to a Florida holiday, Norwegian Sky puts it all together in one smart, seamless package. I enjoyed it a lot.
