Orchestra to Mediterranean

MSC Orchestra was a good choice in many ways for this repositioning cruise. The main pool area was two levels high, and featured a sliding glass roof that allowed it to be used at any time during the often changeable October weather. The one down side was that, with the roof closed, the volume of noise from hundred of boisterous, splashing children (and adults) became something of a clamour that verged on deafening. Ear plugs are definitely a good idea on this ship.

You can also use them to block out the announcements on board, each one made in at least five different languages. MSC Orchestra is a multi national ship, carrying mainly Europeans but, sometimes, also Americans and even Russians, too. Quite the floating polyglot.

However, the food speaks in its own language, and that is magnificent. From the main dining rooms to the speciality restaurants, MSC Orchestra served up some of the best quality dining that I have ever enjoyed on any mega ship. It was as much the sheer variety as it was consistency; the main dining rooms especially were something to anticipate each night. For sure, nobody went hungry on that cruise.

Internally, Orchestra is a feast for the eyes, too. Seemingly random placement of elegant, high quality art works helps give this ship a feeling of casual, spectacular luxury everywhere. Comfortable lounge chairs and sofas are scattered everywhere. This beautiful ship really does raise relaxation to the level of an art form. Just sauntering through the public rooms at night and listening to the fabulous live music on board is sheer delight.

There are cabins to suit every taste and budget, from perfectly primped inside and sea view rooms, up to gorgeously decorated balcony cabins and a range of large, expansive suites right at the crown of the ship. All offer generous storage space and superb quality showers.

MSC Orchestra might be a bit too lavish and 'full on' for some, and may be a bit too boisterous for others. But, if you want a true taste of modern Europe afloat- and Italy in particular- then this is the perfect ship for you.
